Privacy Policy for Anno

Last updated: September 22, 2026

Anno is an app developed by Smilio ("we", "us"). It shows you three photos from your own library each day and asks when each one was taken. This policy explains how it handles your information. In short: your photos are read on your device, never uploaded, and never changed or deleted. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and the app makes no network requests at all.

Information we collect

None. Anno does not ask for your name, email, or any other personal information, and it does not require an account. We operate no servers and receive no data about you — nothing you do in Anno is sent to Smilio or to anyone else. The app has no networking code; it works in aeroplane mode.

Your photos

With your permission, Anno reads photos from your library to play. It reads each photo's image, its capture date, and the camera details stored inside the file, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. Your photos are never modified, moved or deleted — the app only ever reads.

You can grant access to your whole library or to selected photos only, and you can change or withdraw that at any time in iOS Settings. Without photo access the app has nothing to play with, so it will say so and do nothing else.

Where a photo was taken

Some photos carry the place they were taken, recorded by the camera. Anno reads that to work out, on your device, roughly where you usually take photos — and then to say things like "80 km from home" when a photo was taken somewhere unusual.

This never leaves your phone, and no map or geocoding service is ever contacted. That is exactly why the app talks about distance from home rather than naming the town: naming it would mean asking somebody else where you were. Anno does not use your device's location services and never asks for location permission — it only reads what is already inside your own photos.

Information stored on your device

Anno saves your guesses, how far out they were, which day you last played, your streak, and references to the photos it has already shown you, locally on your device using Apple's standard on-device storage. This never leaves your device and is removed if you delete the app. Deleting the app deletes everything the app knows; your photos are untouched, because they were never the app's to begin with.

There is no score, and nobody else sees your guesses

There is no leaderboard, no friends list, no sharing and no sign-in — and no points either. This is deliberate rather than unfinished: a number would have you playing for it instead of looking at your own photos. The app tells you how far out your guess was and leaves it there.

Analytics, tracking, and advertising

Anno contains no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs. We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not build any profile about you.

Children's privacy

Because Anno collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children.
